Solo Bottling—what a pain in the hop bill

Thu Apr 17, 2008 11:37 pm

I am sure you are all experts in bottling solo but this is the first time for me. What a pain and I lost about 4 12oz bottles of beer. Usually get 24 22 ouncer’s and about a 6 pack of 12s. This time I only got 2 12s.

I did use a trick I read on one of these forums about bottling on the dishwasher door and it worked great. No spilled beer to clean up off the floor or the chair we usually use to hold the bottles.

I'll second that. Bottling got real old real fast.

But when i did bottle, i bottled either outside or over the dishwasher.

Bah! In my day we didn't have an dish washer, and we walked 5 miles uphill to school, both ways! :D

I actually bottled on a towel on the floor. No Dishwasher. So after the bottling came the mopping.

In what part of the process is all this beer getting spilled anyway? this is uncarbonated, primed beer for bottle conditioning, right? Perhaps a better spring tip or tighter fitting tube would keep things contained?
What's on tap: Cream Ale, Imperial Blonde
Secondary: British Amber,

The flow over the lip of the bottle. A teaspoon at a time. And when I kick a bottle over. Happens once a batch. Did I explain why I keg now? :D

My spring tip always dripped a little. I never had a huge mess, but more than i'd like to have on my kitchen floor. :)

Yeah I always did it over a big bath towel on the floor and just threw it in the laundry basket when done...no mopping required.
