number on cap for competition

For those that have entered competitions, is it okay to have a random number on the bottle cap? I have labeled my bottles with a sharpie by a number. Generally speaking, is this okay? The number refers to nothing but my own log.
Thanks in advance!

Just black it out with a black permanent marker and you'll be ok.

Many solvents, such as acetone, will take off Sharpie. Might take the color of the cap too but I donno.

Shouldn't be a problem. I do the same thing and have never had a complaint. Nor have I bounced a bottle from any competition which I ran or was registrar for. Most competitions will put a sticker with their entry number on the cap anyway. What would not fly would be a distinctive cap such as a bright red one. What they are trying to avoid is a judge seeing it and thinking "Fred uses bright red caps like this. Must be Fred's beer."

I just spent the afternoon checking in the last of nearly 700 entries for our competition. Just black out the markings on the cap with a sharpie marker. You'll be fine.
