upgrading beer tower questions

I am ready to upgrade my single tower to a double on my kegerator. The dual tower has a 4.5 inch base and a 3 inch column. That's bigger than my current 2.5 inch column. Is it as simple as getting the larger column and drilling new pilot holes, or am I missing something?

I've never done this upgrade but I have seen places selling dual port shanks, so you could basically keep your existing tower and swap in this new shank to add an extra tap.

I suspect the larger column diameter is due to the extra room needed by the tailpieces. You could probably drill a hole in your existing at a different offset to mount another tap/shank. If you staggered them I bet it would work with your existing tower

I have a single tap kegerator I picked up off craigslist I've been planning on fixing up for my garage. Best prices I've seen for a triple tap tower and perlick faucets is this place via amazon: http://amzn.to/jaFNTP

They have a double tower as well and it says it has a 3" diameter.

I took a look at the two tap shanks. The shortest one was 2 &1/4 inches. I think that may be to long for my tower.
