keg lube for beer faucet parts?

Hello everyone,

My beer faucets on the kegerator seem to freeze up pretty quickly and regularly. I can take them apart and clean them and within a week they are freezing up. These are standard faucets.

Could I use keg lube on the inside of faucet? Will that keep the moving parts from freezing up? Has anyone tried this? Please let me know your thoughts on this.

Thanks guys,
John

Truthfully, I would just drink some beer from each faucet each day to stop them them gumming up.

What I did, was eat Ramen noodles for two months, didnt buy any beer, and watched Netflix for entertainment so that I could buy three Ventmatics. Perlicks are like $30-$35, buy those after you have saved yourself enough money from eating Ramen....

Invest in Perlick Pearls... its essentially the only draught tech that I always highly recommend that isn't Micromatic.

The older Perlick forward sealing faucets are also the tits as well, but the new redesigned Pearls are ridiculous.

Also, be sure you aren't cranking down really hard on the tap handle nut. On many faucets this is the nut that compresses the gaskets (Teflon or otherwise) in the mechanics of the handle. On many many draught systems, upon taking apart 'regular' faucets, I see these cranked down way too hard, causing ripping of the gaskets, and in general increasing wear and tear on the faucet, as well as causing them to freeze up easily.

A small amount of keg lube may work... but I would think if there was any residual - it would affect your foam/head retention more than anything.

Cheers,

Keg lube will work just fine without adding any taste. I used to use a commercial food grade equipment lube sold to commercial kitchens but it is the same as the more expensive keg lube sold at homebrew shops. This stuff won't completely solve the problem however. It will lengthen the time between freeze ups and cleaning. I have since moved to a mix of Ventamatics and Perlicks.
