Low on space, still wanna brew.

Tue Feb 08, 2011 2:37 pm

I'm just getting everything lined up to start brewing, but I'm in a ~900 sqft apartment. I do have access to a yard, but there obviously isn't a lot of space to store things. With this in mind, would it be better to keg, or bottle? Thanks.

A tidy kegerator holds a few kegs and will take up less space than oodles of empty and full/carbonating bottles.

I would go the keg option - but I say this regardless of apartment size. Kegging is just superb.

If you're ready to spend the money for the keg setup, I say go for it - I have a keg, I just have had a hard time going in to buy the CO2 setup when I know how many batches of beer's worth of ingredients I could buy with that much :) So for now, I'm bottling. I keep the empty bottles in my pantry (my carboy either goes against the wall in the kitchen or in the pantry as well), and have a beer fridge in my living room. On a side note, you beat me to that username by ONE day. :P

Until I moved to a place with a basement, I stored full kegs awaiting kegerator space in the back of a closet and the empty kegs on their sides under the beds. It was actually kind of nice when looking for something in a closet and discovering a keg of beer you forgot was there.

I'm a bottler. I don't know if this is common, but I have 21 cases of bottles in the house.

I wish. I only have 8 cases of bottles in my 800 sq ft apartment. I would love to keg, but I would also love to not spend a couple of hundred bucks...at the moment...

Maybe start sharing with a homebrew club? Or start giving away for "donations"?
