Where can you store empty c02 tanks?

I have like six 20lb c02 tanks, most of which are emptied. I'm sick of them taking up space in my beer room.
Can they be stored in the attic or outside?
If anyone around Charlotte, NC wants to buy one, PM me.

Empty or full, mine live on the back porch. That's where my beer fridge is.

I must get the empty one filled!

CO2 tanks are just steel tanks. Keep them someplace where they will not get too wet and rust. If you keep the tanks up off the ground (like on some 2x4s or something) they should be fine outside. In theory they should be kept so they cannot tip over. If it is even partly full, and falls over the valve assembly can break off and you have just created a torpedo(people have died from this very problem).

Good to know...I put them outside for now, I will go make sure they wont fall over, and are off the ground.
Thanks!

Leave the valves open and they're just big pieces of steel. Just store them somewhere dry so they they dont rust.

To the contrary, keep the valves closed. They are already dry inside. Closed keeps them dry and keeps critters from crawling in there.

Mythbusters did a pretty cool episode shooting compressed air cannisters through a cinder block wall.
I'd imagine that CO2 containers would do the same thing if the valve stem broke off.
