seriously...WTF?

I have 2 secondary regulators that have 1/4" barbs coming out of each of the openings. I need to remove the barbs. The regulators are Tap Rite and they don't say what direction the threads are for the barbs.

I've been tweaking the shit out of them trying to break the barbs free and have had no luck. I've even sprayed penetrating lubricant on them and they still aren't moving.

Anyone have any suggestions? I don't have a vice to stick the things in to add some leverage, but I have to admit I'd be concerned about putting that much pressure on them.

I have one similar to that and I tried to remove the barb fitting. Couldn't break it loose and was afraid to try harder. Now I'm not even sure there ARE threads.

If you can see the threads, then you should be able to see what direction they are cut, LH or RH.

That will indicate to you whcih direction to turn to remove. Also, if you have some standard RH thread fittings laying around, compare them to the threads on the barb fittings to aid in identification.

You can also just take that brown face off and see inside. That might help you figure out what direction those threads are.

how does the brown face come off? just take out the adjustment screw and pop it off or does it unscrew?

I believe that one unscrews, the top will accept a wrench. I don't think you need to remove the adjuster. Sometimes a little dry-ice will help break threads loose.

The brown cap is just threaded onto the body. Take a vice and some channel locks and power that thing.
