Corny as bottling bucket + Beer Gun

Wed Mar 31, 2010 1:37 pm

Has anyone tried using a corny keg as a bottling bucket, adding priming sugar in the usual amount, then using a Beer Gun to shoot the primed beer into bottles? I would think this would be a lot faster than the traditional bottling bucket + bottle filler combo, as I'd think you could just leave all the bottles in the case box, fill them up in place, then cap.

I have pulled some off a keg through a tap right after kegging and added carb tabs along with Brett before.

But to answer your question, I dont think it would save that much time if any because now you have to clean the beer gun.

you have a better chance of oxygen-free transfers, but time wise and cleaning will be about the same. although i am perplexed how you will cap the bottle while in a box?

Maybe I'm confused but I assume that if you have the Beer Gun and kegs, you have co2 as well. Why bother to use the beer gun if the beer is not carbonated, and if you do have co2, why not force carb the beer?

I've done this with great results.

If you're planning to bottle a whole keg, you won't be saving much time, and you'll have a lot more to clean.

Yes, I did this too for my first time recently for a bottle conditioned brett beer. I no longer have a bottling bucket so I used what I have. It is nice to be able to purge the bottle & head space a bit. I don't think it's any faster than a bottling bucket and maybe a bit slower, but it works great.
