7.9 gallon sanke kegs

Today I was gifted three 7.9 gallon sanke kegs that appear to have been previously used for wine. They've been sitting in the back corner of a restaurant for a long time and are filthy. The spears are loose and can be pulled right out and the valves look pretty questionable.
They seem too narrow to be cut and used for kettles, so I"m wondering is it worth trying to rehab these things to fill with homebrew? Is this easy to do or is the expense and hassle not worth it? Any other thoughts on creative uses for these?

3 fermentors that won't break and slice you to pieces...thank whomever for the gift...if it doesn't work out...scrap metal

Ah good call on fermentors. That should be easy enough to do. I've never seen a "tall 8 gallon" like these before.

Are they the standard tall pony kegs? I thought those were 7.7gallons. I have used a tall pony to ferment, the only issue is that you can't visually confirm that they are clean inside.

Looks to be the same height as a regular 1/2 bbl, just skinnier. It's stamped 7.9 gals.

Excellent! You won't have to worry that your 6 gallon wort ends up as 6 gallons of beer and the corny's full with no place left to go but the sink.
Pony kegs are at least as usable as cornys. The gaskets might be a problem, but I'm sure its one you can overcome with little research. All you need is a couple or three Sanke taps and some 1/4" MFL fittings and you're set.

Yes, they are. bbl = 31 gal., half = 15.5, quarter 7.75. Mine (from Franke) are stamped 7.75
