Yeehaa - New Kegger

Thu Mar 18, 2010 5:18 pm

Just dropped a few C Notes to MoreBeer and got kegging equipment. Shit I am stoked. I will brew a super hoppy pale ale for the inaugural brew. Just had to tell the BN Army, rock on!

You'll make up for that in time you save. After I went to kegs, I couldn't figure out why it took me so long to make the switch.

Enjoy the new setup!

When I finished kegging my first beer, I was wondering what I forgot to do because it went so quick. Now I find myself wanting more kegs...will it ever stop?

One must build a hearty stock of kegs. I have 6, but could use 2 more, as very rarely do I have kegs sitting empty, especially now I am doing some 10 gallon batches.

After you have your kegs for a few months, you will start thinking about a keg washer. You can look up the info on this board. Although filling pre-sanitized kegs is a snap and so very painless, cleaning dirty kegs is still a bitch. The keg washer helps with this, but is still takes a while. Rinse, take posts apart, soak, put posts back on, invert keg, soak, rinse, run rinse water through beer out tube, lube o-rings, sanitize, run sanitizer through beer out tube, pressurize and store. You can clean a few kegs at a time, but it still takes me a couple hours.

You have already crossed over to the dark side. 8) It will never end. Always be on the lookout for cheap kegs. Ask around at restaurants and bars that have switched over to the bag system for sodas. Sometimes they have some kegs sitting in the basement or back room that they would love to have someone take away. I got a couple that way. I have gotten them at yard sales. I even got one at a Salvation army store. The point is to always be looking whether you need another one right then or not. If you wait until you actually need another keg, you will never find a cheap one. This is how I ended up with 20+ kegs and no I don't want to get rid of any of them.
