So I just shipped off some beers to my first competition. Already had a bad day, but I could handle packaging the bottles and running them to the shipper.
Then tonight I did a keg-to-keg transfer. Have an event coming up this weekend that I am bringing two kegs to, so I wanted to transfer them to fresh kegs to lose the sediment.
Ran the packages to the shipper.
I start adjusting my regulator to lower the pressure to make the transfer more gentle and it is acting weird. Then I pour a pint of beer to drink during the transfer. Beer is way under carbonated. Now this wouldn't be such a big deal except that I bottled all three beers to send off to competitions yesterday. f*CK.
This all stems from an event I had about two weeks ago when I had beer back up into the gas line. I took the regulator off and rinsed it out. Tonight when I noticed the regulator acting funny, I actually took it apart to find it had actually iced up inside. So who knows what pressure it was actually at when it was reading 10 psi. Right after that event happened I installed a check valve so it wouldn't happen again.
Long story short, if you ever get beer backed up into the regulator, take the damn thing apart completely and dry everything out before using it again. I bottled 60+ bottles last night for upcoming competitions and to give to friends, and they are probably all severely under carbonated when just a week ago they were all perfectly carbonated.
pissed off right now.
The only good thing is I have a few days to get the beer carbed up again for my event this Sunday, so it may be a bit under carbonated but should recover after a few days. But all the beer in bottles was probably a big waste. Sucks to know I sent off all that beer now knowing it is not carbonated properly. Between washing, sterilizing the bottles in the oven, and then bottling I best I spent 10 hours that is now wasted.
oh well just had to vent. one of those days.
