Temp controller probe location in kegerator?

Tue Sep 29, 2009 1:29 pm

I'm finally about done with my kegerator, a through-the-door tap reconfiguration of a Sanyo 4912. I have an external temperature controller that I plan to set to 38 or 40 degrees, so I can maintain a stable temperature in the kegerator. My question is, where do I place the probe of the temperature controller? I seem to recall an old BrewStrong or Sunday Session where Jamil said to tape it to the side of the keg, with some bubble wrap or other insulating material between the tape and the probe. This way, it reads the temperature of the beer and not the air inside the fridge. Is that what my BN Army comrades do?

your right about what Jamil said but that was for fermenters - For a kegerator I wouldn't worry about it. A +/- 3 degree difference won't affect you kegged beer the way it will fermenting wort

On mine I just dangle the probe free, just make sure that it doesn't contact the sides of the keggerator because that might through off the reading
