So I scored some free kegs from my father in law. He only used them for soda and never disasembled them. I cannot for the life of me get the star shaped posts off. Do any of you guys know what socket attachment is used to remove them. I took an example of one of the posts(off one of my other kegs) down to home depot and no one could find a tool that would fit it. I tried using a wrench but no matter how hard i try I cant get the posts off. I am pretty sure they where put on at the pepsi plant so I need better leverage. Could anyone throw me a bone?

I use a 12-point box-end wrench.
7/8 or 11/16 depending on the keg type. You can also get the deep well sockets as mentioned in Badrock's post above, but if you have box-end wrench set, you're probably good to go.
If you are having difficulty getting them off, you might have to 'convince' it by giving it a good rap with your hand on the end of the wrench. Good luck

I use a 22mm box end wrench and it works perfectly. I think it gives better leverage than a socket too. I ride a British motorcycle so I have mostly metric tools.

I have had a few that were very sticky. Even tried an impact wrench - no luck. Decided to soak them in PBW, after a day or so I was able to remove them.
