condensation in freezer

Mon Apr 20, 2009 3:28 pm

Does anyone else get a decent amount of condensation on the inside of their chest freezer right where the coils are located? I have an external temperature control that overrides the freezer thermostat. I am worried about the water eventually getting into parts of the freezer and causing rust, etc. Any suggestions? Thanks

I use one of these. http://www.safehomeproducts.com/shp2/product/eva-dry-edv500-dehumidifier/dehumidifiers/dehumidifier-edv-500/159093/159093.aspx?source=GoogleBase

Seems to work well. Every few months I plug it into the wall and dry out the medium overnight. I've used it for about a year and a half, and I have yet to need to clean the kegerator because of condensation.

Spilled beer in the kegerator, however, is another story. :D

I tried an EVA-DRY, it didn't seem to do much for my setup.

I just roll up a bath towel and set it in the corner of the freezer where the water builds up.

Then change it every week two.

Go down to your local hardware store and get some Damp Rid. The stuff will soak up all the moisture that collects. During some times of the year you may have to change it out every couple of weeks, but it does keep things dry.

Yeah, I just bought some damprid for the first time. I immediately peeled off the Tyvex BECAUSE IT DOESN'T SAY NOT TO (at least not on the Tyvex itself.... you have to read the actual instructions, and who the fuck does that?) And besides.... it's TYVEX! IIRC, Tyvex is a vapor barrier. Why would they put a vapor barrier over something that is designed to suck up moisture? I distinctly remember saying to myself - "Ah, they put a vapor barrier over the product to prevent it from spoiling on the shelf. That's clever."

FUCK.
