Plastic or glass bottles

Wed Feb 18, 2009 3:49 pm

I've got 36 plastic bottles that I've been using and just buying new caps, however one guy said he glass bottles are better for bottling beer...then I've heard plastic bottles are better because it allows for some expansion in case the beer is bottled too early before fermentation was complete (which is bad).

So what is more preferred..it kind of sounds like more of whatever suits your fancy.

Depending on how long you plan to have your beer in storage and what kind of plastic you're considering you will likely have to worry about "plasticy" flavors and oxygen permeability issues with plastic bottles. If you're content with your beer in the plastic and you're using it already there's no reason not to stick with it, but I'd rather perfect my fermentation/avoid the bottle bombs and go to a dark glass bottle if I were you.

I've been using Better Bottles for over 2 years with no issues.

They are lighter and much safer to handle than glass.
