I am new to kegging and it seems that when I took apart my keg to clean and refurbish I put the wrong posts back on the wrong side of the keg. Will this have any adverse effect on operations other than the fact I am dispensing through the white disconnct and gassing in through the black? I was going to leave it be until I kick the keg...which wont take long. I have been seeing CO2 go missing at an alarming rate but it seems to have leveled out. Can I depressurize the keg and move the posts or should I wait till I finish the keg? I knew I fucked it up when I set the system up, I just didnt realize where my mistake was. I seem to have gone through half a 5 pound tank of co 2 in a week and a half on one keg...could this disconnect issue be the culpret? I have done the soap test to locate a leak but to no avail. The system dispenses just fine but I have massive mysterious dissapearences of gas that seem to occur when I muck with the pressure or the temp of the fridge.

If its dispensing fine I would normally say don't worry about it until after the keg is gone. But, since you are going through CO2 so fast you obviously have a leak somewhere. Just as perspective I have been using a 5lb tank on a two keg system and it is still practically full after 6 1/2 kegs. If you're burning through your gas at that rate it might be worth it to change the posts, they are marked for a reason.....A while back I had a leak that I couldn't find. It ended up being the regulator, try spraying everything again with either some soapy water or a star-san mixture works well also. Try that again before you dis-assemble anything and see if you can find the leak, you definently shouldn't be going through the gas that fast. Good luck.

did you fuck up your posts or your connectors... or both.
If you have the black connector on the gas (notched) post you will have a bitch of a time getting it off.
Like really bad, super suckage, etc.
if you just are pushing gas through the black and the black is on a beer post, just in the wrong place you will be fine.

luckily there is a shop up the street that fills co2. Well, at least this is one of those mistakes I know I wont make twice. I had to pry the gas disconnect off witha pair of plyers but I dont think I broke it....but I am obviously not an expert on these things. Luckily I have another set of disconnects coming from NB today in the mail.

Yeah, it is a bitch when you get those mixed up. I've done it myself a few times.

There a couple simple things to remember to keep these straight. The gas post always has either a 12 point star base (needing a 12 socket to remove) or grooves on the points of the 6 point base. The gray disconnect goes on this post.

To keep it simple just remember:

G = Gas = Groove = Gray
B = Beer = Black

Alphabetize everything and you are cool.

Are you sure you are losing gas at all? If your regulator is inside your kegerator the guage showing how much gas is in the tank won't work properly. It will show that you're close to empty even on a freshly filled tank.

Becuase I'm such an whenever I clean a corny keg I always take apart one post, clean and sanitize it and put it back together and then clean and sanatize the other post. Even an like me can't fuck it up that way...I'm just sayin

I can't understand why people even use a tank pressure gauge.

Compressed CO2 reaches an equilibrium between liquid and gas phase, so there should always be ~800 PSI at room temperature, until the liquid is depleted. Once the liquid is depleted, you don't have much gas left. The pressure will drop quickly.

When you throw the tank in the fridge, the equilibrium pressure decreases.

The only accurate way to tell how much gas you have left is by weight.
