Captain! Thepreasure is dropping!

Sat Dec 20, 2008 1:28 pm

I am getting ready to drop the temp of my fermenting beer to above freezing. That is going to cause a vacuum inside the fermenter. Do I pull the air lock out and let the pressure equal out or just let the vodka in my air lock get sucked in? Or does it really matter? Seems like either way, air is going to get into the fermenter.

Thanks in advance.

I usually pull the air lock, spray the throat of the carboy down with star san and place a piece of aluminum foil over the opening. This was it can breath a little but you are still safe from things dropping in.

I use one of these http://morebeer.com/view_product/16797//Sanitary_Filter with a #7 sized stopper.
