Quick disconnect and keg post assembly

Thu Dec 04, 2008 9:40 pm

I see questions here now and then about taking apart QD's and keg posts. Tonight I came across this illustration a guy in our brew club put together.

Thought this might help folks that disassemble these things and can't figure out how to get them back together (or lose a part down the drain).

Hey Bug, how do you get the O-Ring of the post without tearing it up? Or should I even be taking the O-Ring off during a clean/sanitize?

Thanks for the diagram too!

With dry hands and maybe a paper towel for friction, put your thumb and forefinger on either side of the post. Squeeze slightly and push or pull the O-ring to have a little loop poking away from the post. Grab the loop and Bob's your uncle!

I seldom take that O-ring off during routine cleaning and sanitizing. I do have a bag full of replacement post O-rings so when I take one off I usually just pitch it and put on a new one.

That's been my usual plan, but the only time I've taken them off (to replace them originally), I had a hell of a time, and tried using a small screwdriver to pry under them, and ended up tearing it.

Thanks!

Go ahead. A lot of folks need a picture to figure this out.
