None of the instructions I have say that it needs to be mixed well. I sanitize a teaspoon for a bit and then pop the airlock off the top of the carboy, pour a tsp on top of the finished beer, put the airlock back in place, and then drop my temp.
After about a week I rack to the keg for any conditioning that may be required, or just carb and drink.
Below is a picture of the Mexican Lager I just kegged on Sunday, used 1 tsp in each 5 gal carboy at cold crash.
Like I said, it works for me.
