I have now heard both sides to the CPF and Beergun preferences..... I am pretty certain that I will be the proud new owner of a beergun within the next week or so. :jnj

Thanks guys

I have a CPF - hate it. I may buy a beer gun later.

I never used a counter pressure. Went straight to the beer gun and love it.

Just an update for those interested.

Finally got a chance to have a bottling session with my beer gun for the first time. Bottled 2 different beers from cornies, a blonde and Tasty's APA... Bottling is so much easier with this thing, and the results are awesome. Before this I was using a piece of a racking cane jammed in the end of a picnic tap.

Covered the bottles with foil and sterilized the bottles the night before in the oven. Clean and sanitized the beer gun and keg connectors. Hooked everything up, used around 7psi of co2. It worked perfectly, allowed me to purge the bottle before filling, fill it up, then give it a little blast of co2 just before putting the cap on. Very little foam, and a perfect amount of headspace after pulling out the gun. I bottled 12 bombers and 15 twelve oz. bottles no problem. Then took the beer gun apart for cleaning. Couldn't be happier with the results. If you want bottling to be easy and get great results, this is it.

I hated my CPF until i figured out how to use it.

I don't have a beer gun but have seen demonstrations of it.

ANY fill method you do will be improved if two things happen..... 1) the temperature of the carbonated beer is near freezing 2) release the head pressure on the keg and keep it around 5 psi.
suck it

Agreed. Also forgot to add that I put all the bottles in the fridge for a few hours to get them to 34F, same temp as the beer.

I thought you wanted the pressure of the beer/keg in your bottle so you wouldn't lose any volumes of CO2 if using the CPF.
