I stand corrected. Maybe you shouldn't taste it after all.

Except that warning is for swallowing it directly.

When diluted into 5 gallons of water, it's safe. Just like it warns you against touching it. That doesn't mean to wear a hazmat suit when washing a 5 gallon solution, just to wash off if the PBW comes into contact with you.

That being said, if the taste is off then stop drinking.

one of the first things i was taught when i was learning to brew in a brewery was that beer only gets transfered into something that was just soaked in acid (sanitizer). never transfer beer onto cleaner, period. i really can't think of any situation except for when you're drinking it that it's okay to transfer beer into something that wasn't cleaned, rinsed, then sanitized.

i personally wouldn't drink the beer

Taste seems OK. I think in my head I am trying to find an off flavor. Same with aroma and head formation, all seem fine.
I emailed Five Star but have received no response. I'm thinking the potentially bad chemicals in PBW are so diluted that I should be fine to drink the beer.

How's your health holding up these days atomicpunk? Did anyone else sample your brew?

I did the exact same thing you did, but this batch (Phat Tyre clone) is destined for our wedding reception...DOH! I'd hate to poison the entire fam....even worse, serve a bad batch of homebrew! However, there is not enough time to brew another batch, so I'm leaning towards following in your footsteps. (after tasting a few pints myself, of course)

Also, did you ever receive a response from Five Star?
