Re: Counter Pressure Bottle Filler Question

Well I picked up a complete kegging system today. Two cornies, CO2 tank, regulator, hoses,.. and .... a beer gun. I think that the beer gun will fill my needs and be a bit of a less hassle.

Thanks all you :nutters: :unicornrainbow: and :asshat:

Got my 80 Shilling all kegged up yesterday. Damn that was easy.

Since I am using 6G carboys I had about a half a gallon left over. I have a few of those 32 ounce EZ flip top bottles. I have no idea how much priming sugar to put in each bottle. I guessed at one rounded teaspoon per 32 oz bottle. I am going to drink them as soon as they are primed so I didn't worry too much about sterility and dumped the dry corn sugar right in the bottle.

Someday I'll have to do the math. for that.

You can use those "carb-tabs" for that application - or you can do what I do and buy yourself a carbonator cap. You can do the shakey-shakey method (as long as the beer is cold) and have drinkable beer instantly.

Tip for cleaning a CPBF:
open all the valves and turn it upside-down in your sink (so that the beer-out tube is facing upward). Then direct hot water from your faucet down the tube - there will be some overspray that will go down the 'gas out' tube and in to the T at the bottom of the filler. Since all your valves are open, this clean, hot water should go out of all of the valves and clean the filler in a jiffy. as an added safety measure, I run some star-san thru the filler in the same way, then allow to dry.
This makes cleaning the CPBF much less of a PITA

Have fun

So... I googled "carbonator cap" and found this youtube video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJD0bv9kLAQ

Using an auto tire valve stem in an interesting idea. Wonder if it would leave a rubber flavor?

I've made several of the homemade carbonator caps. I thought the black rubber ones smelled awful so I found some chrome metal stems. they work fine and don't add any bad smells or flavors.
