I had a chest freezer , friggin huge 8 foot long worked like a champ till I got the crazy Idea to raise the lid. I poped a small hole SSSSSSSSSssshhhhhhhh it.
Months later after it had been dumped I found a book at a local used book store on refrigrator and cooler repair. I could have fixed it myself.
I know what I could have done would have never been as nice as what you have but damm.. I hate hearing coolant line horror stories.
The actual repair isn't anything hard. The problem lays in the equipment needed to recharge your system. The vacuum pump needed alone, costs more than the costs of having it done, and then you could have never bought the refrigerant to charge it with as you have to have a cfc license to purchase it, and a very accurate scale as the system is designed to run on a very specific amount of a very specific refrigerant. You can't just add any old refrigerant, say the stuff they "will" sell you at the auto parts store for you car. It has to be the same stuff that your system is designed to operate on.
Trust me, just call someone.
