How bad does this suck?

Wed Dec 23, 2009 2:46 pm

I am lagering 5 Gallons of Munich Helles for the last 4 weeks. I took a sample off the keg last night. Tasted good just starting to clear.
I took the bev line off the keg and went to bed.
This morning I walk into the garage and I smell beer. WTF?
The bev line poppet on the Helles keg didn't seal and 4 of my 5 gallons Helles is on the garage floor.
That just sucks.

It has happened to me twice, luckily it was in a chest freezer so I used the shop vac to fix that issue.

I haven't experienced this yet, but my first beer is in the keg conditioning as I type and the thought of this happening terrifies me.

How is it that if you remove a line of some sort and a poppet is off kilter, you don't know immediately?

Sometimes, it's REAL slow without giving any obvious indication.

I had a perlick faucet that leaked just a little bit... over a day or so I lost 3 gallons of a really nice kolsch. It will eventually happen to all who keg their beer.

Sucks to have to clean it up though. Don't cry too much :bnarmy:
