Taking a keg to a party...

Sat Jul 11, 2009 7:20 pm

Folks, how do you get a keg to a party without stirring up the nasty sediment at the bottom?

Thanks,
Steve

I use a jumper to transfer the beer to a fresh keg without the sediment.

How long has it been kegged/cold crashed?? Most of any sediment should have come out in your first few pours, anything left after that shouldn't be enough to really worry about. Just pour yourself the first glass when you get there.

Rino's got it, it depends on your system. I was at a campout where a dude brought a keg of homebrew using the cut diptube method that had gotten stirred up and was pouring really yeasty. If it's currently pouring clear, the foolproof way is to jump it to another keg, so the traveling keg only contains clear beer. This works well for me. I've the diip tubes cut on all my 5 gallon cornies, so I'm pulling beer from over a layer of sediment. I then will transfer to my 3 gallon corny that has a full length diptube. If I transfer clear beer, it pours clear whereever I go.

Another trick is to bring a wheat beer or a wit, then no one will care if it's cloudy.

take it the day before and let it settle???? Cut the dip tube and transfer to another keg is the way to go! +1 to everyone else that said this.

Excellent feedback. Gracias. I haven't cut my diptube b/c I can't bear the thought of not being able to get those last few pints at the end of the keg.

Transferring to a fresh keg seems like the way to go (for me).

Thanks again.
