Firestone Challenger VI Gas In Tube - Have Nylon want SS

Sat Mar 14, 2009 1:55 pm

My Firestone Challenger VI Gas In Tube appears to made of nylon.

It is a little smaller than the stainless steel gas in tube that more beer sells.

Does anyone know where you can purchase SS gas in tubes for this type of keg?

I did a little searching around on this item. The plastic tube is no longer made so replacements are supposedly no longer available. Someone on another board did state that Foxx Equipment has them, but they are wholesale only so you would have to have your LHBS order it assuming Foxx really does have them.

The fix most folks seem to have done when desperate is to drill out the hole to fit the SS tube you can find.

I know it's not a whole lot of help, but that is all I can find.

I have the same problem. The only other solution I could think of is to buy some tubing, either aluminum or stainless, cut to length, and flare the end with a tubing flare tool. Does anyone know where to find stainless tubing? I think hobby stores have aluminum.

I had the same issue and I just grabed my metal drill bit set, my electic drill, and some lube ant then drilled out the hole. I dont remember what size bit it was but if you just do what I did and size it up you'll be fine. Good Luck.

I second the drilling method, worked fine for me.

I just drilled a hole in the vinyl one I have that I now use as my dry hopping keg. I hang a SS mesh tea ball with hops from the gas dip tube. It works great because by the time the beer level drops below the ball it is done dry hopping. I would just use it, no big deal really.

Just curious, has anyone ever set up a keg without a gas-in tube at all? It seems almost superfluous. Maybe you would need a little metal washer to fit between the rubber gasket and the poppet.
