Can you serve from the fermentation side?
I'd have thought that would be a better temp to serve at?

Well, that side could be at any number of temperatures based on what I'm fermenting (low 50's, low 60's, mid-60's). Plus, with 2 carboys in there when I'm fermenting, that won't leave any room for kegs for serving. So, serving isn't really a good option on that side.
