Odd sediment(?) in recently bottled dunkelweizin

Sat Apr 23, 2011 8:19 pm

It's my fifth batch. Still working from kits...I'll get off my ass soon, promise! I just checked the batch a week after bottling to find dark "specks" floating in the beer. About two thirds of the batch had this. They dissipated when agitated. I opened one up to see if the taste was altered, but luckily it wasn't.
Fermentation was on the cool side and, of course, took longer than normal by about ...a month. Basement temps were around 57 consistantly, but I just had to brew!
Any thoughts on the "specks"? Thanks for any help you might offer.
Cheers!

How large were the specks? Were they floating because it had gotten shaken up a bit? Was the beer hazy when you bottled?

THe speck varied in size from hair width to about 1/16 of an inch. Bottle lifted from cases, not stirred or agitated except to see if crud would dissipate/break up - which initially it did, to a certain extent. Upon re checking this morning the stuff is still visible. Beer was fairly clear when bottled. I can't say I've ever had a perfectly clear batch. I do use irish moss during the boil.
