Why won't my tap work?

Fri Feb 11, 2011 5:14 pm

Hey everybody,

I just finished building my keezer this week after acquiring a 15 cubic foot freezer for freee!!
I plan to have three taps, but for now I only have one. I have two kegs running off a co2 splitter. I have been pouring from one keg for a couple of days and tonight I decided to switch over to sample the other one.
When I pulled the tap.....nothing. I switched back to keg #1 and it worked fine. Keg #2...nothing.
I am sure that my CO2 is turned on. I bled it and could hear it filling back up.
Does anyone know what might cause this?
I did try dry hopping in the keg with loose whole hops this time, but I covered the dip tube with a hop sac. Could this be it? I am guessing so for lack of another idea.
Seems like it should at least make a noise or something.
Any help is appreciated.

cheers.

you might have the short and long dip tubes reversed.

Try reversing your gas hose coupler and blow some co2 into the out side.sounds like you have a clogged tube.
Is it beer :30 yet?

Well I think I definitely have a clogged tube. I reversed them and was able to get a little drip going, but not much.
I wonder if I can put my bazooka screen over the tube and get it to work.
Worst case I will have to siphon it to the other keg when it's empty.
I would hate to oxidize it though.

If you have the threaded disconnects, attach your gas hose to the beverage side disconnect and shoot a quick blast into the keg, that will clear your dip tube. And next time you want to dry hop in the keg, hang a hop sack in the keg with some dental floss, hang it about mid way down, so when the keg hits the halfway point, the hop sack will be hanging in mid air.....I have dry hopped mine for months with no ill effects.

Thanks Whitebeard,

I have done that in the past but I want more hoppiness so that's why I tried it without the bag this time.
Luckily I have come up with a solution.
I made my own surescreen out of some window screen and a hose clamp. It works great.
I will probably order one later because they are stainless steel.
