Picnic taps and Keg quick disconnects

I learned something yesterday that I thought I would pass on.
Let me state I'm OCD about cleaning and I'm also a germ-a-phobe.

So, I'm reading another forum and I see a post about how to clean picnic taps. The procedure also talked about disassembling quick disconnects for kegs.

Huh. I never noticed the flat slot on the top to take them apart before.
I removed all the liquid side quick disconnects off my 2 year kegerator and gave them a good soak in hot PWB and then ran star san through them.

I always used to just run starsan through them, but I'll add the disassembly and soak to my cleaning regime.

Disassembly and cleaning of QD's is something folks forget to tell new keggers about. After soaking a bit, I also "scrub" the insides a little with a Q-tip to help remove and sticky goop that may have accumulated. Be real careful about keeping track of all the little parts. It is easy to lose something or get the post back in upside down.

I flush them every new batch with Starsan. No issues to date with any contamination. I do hate to disassmble stuff for fear of losing parts or not assembling tham back to 100% working condition.
