Kegging and Transportation question

Tue Jun 02, 2009 4:55 am

Ok, I tried searching for this but had problems finding it.

I don't keg yet, but am tired of filling bottles and bombers so its only a matter of time before I start. A major concern has been transportation of the keg. If I take this to events, or parties do I have to keep the CO2 tank attached or once carbbed can it be removed and the beer hold its carbonation for dispensing, or will it automatically try to balance itself out with the head space?

Thanks!

Assuming the beer is fully carbonated to begin with, it will stay balanced with the headspace while in transport. If you try to dispense without adding more CO2, you will get progressively slower (or no) flow followed by lower carbonation levels in the beer. Not a very satisfying party experience :)

Disconnect the CO2 from the keg for transport, fully close the valve on the CO2 bottle and bring both to the party. Hook it back up when you get there. Alternatively you can get a mini Co2 injector and save yourself the trouble of hauling that big bottle around.
