Hose question

I was listening the the archive of the session about kegging and dispensing and you guys described the problem I have with my kegerator exactly

A cycle of too much foam and under carbonation

You said the problem was to short of a hose on the faucet and I think it was tasty that said the hose should be 3/16 I.D.

My problem is that there is no way that a 3/16 hose will fit on my faucet

I'm going to have to go with 3/8 O.D. (not sure what the I.D. is)

My question is - With having to use twice the diameter of hose do I need to use twice the length?

You should be able to find a fitting for the faucet or shank that will accomodate a 3/16" ID - and I highly recommend getting a beer line specifically for beer, branded with either Foxx or Micromatic. Trust me, you will be happier in the end - even if you have to pay more.

Try heating some water to boiling and then soak the end of the tubing in it for 20-30 seconds. You should be able to work the tubing right onto the barb. I've done this trick several times.

Bugeater's trick works great. I have shoehorned that same 3/16" ID tubing over a 1/4" barb fitting for my disconnect. The real beer line is food grade, completely smooth on the inside, remains flexible at serving temps, and doesn't impart any plastic flavors to the beer. I have tried the cheap stuff and I lost a bit of hair dealing with my cheapness. Never again.

I lived there for about 6 years when I was a kid

I like the tips about the food grade tubing - I'm currently stealing mine from work

can't really say if it is food grade of not

the last batch wasn't vinyl - it was Polyurethane

never even would have looked if not for the show

not sure if Polyurethane is ok or not but that is what the beer I am currently drinking came out of

how do you tell if something you get for free is food grade?

its all about balance. i got pretty close using the calculations, just a couple adjustments and i was right on.
