Thanks for the photo. That makes sense.

I got another question and a photo to go with it but I don't know how to add the photo.

On the spear, once you remove the retaining spring, there is a black hard rubber stopper thing at the end of the spear shaft. This black rubber stopper holds the ball valve and spring inside the spear. I was able to remove this very easy but have a tough time installing back. The black stopper is about a 1/2 inch long.

Any suggestions on how to install this?

You just pull it out, apparently.here are some pretty pictures that show the process:

quick question about the rubber seal that you removed. Was it like the one in the thread that Danny posted or did a ball bearing pop out?

If it was like the one that was posted in Danny's link, those are pretty simple to reinstall. The ball valves are a pain in the ass to reinstall. The seals will reseat much easier if you cover them with keg lube.
I think I've had about enough beer tonight...Now I need some Whiskey to sober up

It is the one that has the ball valve. I found a little keg lube worked OK.
