Beer Storage in Corny Kegs...

Thu Mar 12, 2009 1:28 pm

This is the problem I always have with corny kegs and I don't know if it's the norm or I have a problem.
After I rack my beer into a corny I purge any O2 then hit it with about 25-30 psi to seal the keg and put it in the fridge to condition.
After a day or two the keg has lost pressure.
My question is has the gas has just been absorb into the beer?
Do I have to worry about O2 getting into the keg if I store them while waiting for a tap to become free on my kegerator?
Thanks in advance for any help given.

The CO2 has just absorbed into the beer. Chilling it speeds up the process even more. As long as you have at least enough pressure to keep it sealed you don't need to worry about O2 getting in there. If in doubt hit it with another shot of CO2. This won't fully carbonate it but will help maintain the seal and give you a head start on carbonation when you are ready.

I generally condition my kegs pretty much fully carbonated.
