Question About CO2 Pressure

Tue Jan 13, 2009 5:21 pm

IF I split my co2 line to carbonate 2 kegs does that change the formula for temperature/desired level of carbonation...in other words will I need to jack the pressure up to carbonate 2 english ales instead of 1?

No, both will carbonate equally. This is great when you have 2 beers of the same style (or that require similar carbonation levels), but it sucks when you want to force carb your ordinary bitter and your hefeweizen at the same time.

thanks,

I guess I will bottle the wit beer and keg the ipa....none of my friends really understand the amount of planning that is required to keep the pipeline full of properly fermented and conditioned beer.

Cheers :jnj

I am now running 12 kegs off of one tank, all at the same pressure. I have a gas manifold that let's me turn each particular keg on or off, but the concept is the same as what you described. All you need it a $0.50 plastic Tee and some additional gas line and quick connects and you can run several in this manner.

You can force carb one keg by just unhooking the other one, jacking the CO2 up to 30psi and shaking the hell out of it for 5 minutes. I let it sit without gas on it at cold temps for a day, then hook back up to the gas source, depressurize the keg of the excess pressure and let it settle in at the 10-12psi you would serve at. No need to bottle if you don't want to.
