Go ahead and age with CO2. The keg is simply a big bottle. You age big beers in bottles with CO2. The keg is no different.
You don't need to keep it hooked up to CO2 during aging, but you do want to get it somewhere close to full carbonation before aging. The pressure will help keep the lid sealed. As the beer absorbs the gas the pressure will drop a little so you want to make sure there is enough pressure in there at the beginning so you don't lose the seal.
You will also want to do the aging in a relatively cool place though you don't really need to keep it under refrigeration. The warmer you store it, the quicker the aging process ...... and the quicker the deterioration once you pass the optimal aging level.
