Damn, just finished listening to this show. What a cool show - cheers to the Can You Brew It? crew for taking on such a daunting challenge. Mraz is the perfect guy to bring in on this one.

Gotta love a low alcohol beer like Bam Biere with big complexity.

Substitute for Crystal? Tough one, since that's such a signature hop of the beer.. But...

Since crystal is a Hallertau/Cascade cross, you could try a blend of those two directly, or if you can't get your hands on that, do something like Mt. Hood/Amarillo. Sterling with it's noble spiciness & citrus qualities would be another interesting choice for a beer like this.
Cheers! Kippis! Skål! Prost!

Wasn't able to get Bam Biere at the store, but did get Jollly Pumpkin's white ale. Think that the buggies in there are more-or-less the same as in BB? Would like to culture them up to pitch into secondary. (The other option at my local store was a golden ale of much higher ABV.)

brewing my own version of this one this week, of course I have no idea what its supposed to tast like as I'm pretty sure we cant get Jolly Pumpkin in Australia (that I know of). It will be a bit of a bastardised version as I cant get a hold of any crystal easily so am using a Halertau cascade blend (about 2:1 with the same target IBU's as the recipe) also the home brew shop didnt have any unmalted barley so it'll be all unmalted wheat. The amusing thing on this is my parrents have at least 30 tonnes of barley (and wheat) sitting around on the farm. no patience though I need to brew tomorrow!

With 30 tonne of malt grade barley sitting in a silo on my parrents farm? I dont think I need to freight it from Queensland.

The beer turned out ok so far, I missed my gravity but the wort tasted good, if not a little hoppier than I expected. I'm still deciding if I'll sour it or not?

What were you planning on souring with?
