need help getting rubber stopper out of glass carboy.

Sun Oct 28, 2012 3:47 pm

Hello,

I knew a month ago I was screwed. I put the airlock/rubber stopper into my glass carboy. The glass and starstan was so slippery the bung would not stay in place. I kept pushing it in and it went into the neck. I let it finish out lagering and today I siphoned. The beer turned out ok. But now my rubber stopper is stuck in the glass carboy. %^#%^#%^

Does anyone have any experience or tricks to get this out?

Please help.

Thanks in advance,
John

Get a plastic supermarket bag. make a "rope" out of it, but don't twist it or make it too tight.
Put one end of the "rope" into the carboy neck, then blow it up a little bit like a balloon to make it puff up like a baloon.
Tip the carboy upside down so the stopper falls into range of the hole in contact with the "baloon". Slowly and gently, start applying pressure so that the bag grips the stopper. It takes some work, but given some time and jiggling, and pulling at it, it will eventually come out.

Good luck & HTH-

Id use a small extended forceps. Turn the carboy upsidedown and get that sucker out like you would do if you were fishing your favorite kure iut of a pesky fish.

A handkerchief works well too for retrieving stoppers. :jnj

Wet washcloth does the same trick. Learned about it here too.

If you take what I post here literally, you're retarded. I'm here to fuck around, have a good time, and learn about beer. You mean nothing to me and I mean nothing to you.
