Garage is at 57F - anyone successfully use WLP001 at those low of temps? IPA is the recipe.

That's pushing the limits of 001, but Wyeast 2112 Cal Common yeast will work GREAT at those temps, and give a really interesting clean profile. Or just swap out the hops for Northern Brewer and do a real Cal Common. Not much difference in the grain bill.

Or just take it into the house (Igloo) till it ferments out.

Wyeast 1056 will rip through that beer at that temp. Pitch the yeast at 65-66. Depending on the health of your yeast and size of your starter, the temp of your beer will go down to the low 60's and then quickly free rise back up to 64-66 degrees at that temperature. I just fermented a beer at 58 ambient with 1056 with great results. 001 really liks temps a bit warmer or it doesn't quite finish; like ambient of 62-64. I have 2 beers at the house that I just fermented; one with 1056 and one with 001 , and I had to ferment 1056 much cooler. Wyeast 2112 used to be one of my go to yeasts, but it's a very low attenuator so I stopped using it in favor of other yeasts. If you're planning on starting an ipa or apa at 1.058-1.064...or something like that, that beer will finish sweet. If you're planning on starting much more than 1.048, I personally wouldn't use that strain.
