Any interest in an interactive review site?

Wed May 24, 2006 10:32 am

Ususally when I think about buying something non-beer related I seek out consumer user reviews (like Amazon or Epinions). I haven't been able to find anything like that for Homebrew stuff, though a couple of sites do allow user reviews of their products, there's no standard.

I envision (and have been messing around with) a site for Extract kit reviews, All-grain recipe reviews and (most importantly) feedback, and possibly even hardware reviews and comments.

Just polling for interest and feedback, any respnse appreciated.

(oh btw, first post :))

Sounds like a good idea to me too. Nothing worse than spending all the money for a kit or recipe only to find out that it sucks! Even better would be to buy them on the advice of respected brewers instead of just blindly buying with no idea what you're getting. I'm all for it.

Well, feel free to take a look at what I'm working at currently.

It's completely beta at this point and still needs some style weaking, and a good deal of organizational work.

The products are just for example, it contains no actual meaningful data at this point. I haven't worked out how to approach vendors, etc for permission to use their names and products...
I have a post going over at realbeer if you run into it.

Thanks for any feedback (currently on hiatus, due to ISP outage at home  )

Wow. Good job. I think that it has a lot to offer. I think that the format is just right and intuitive. I had no prob finding my way around, and I'm about half brain dead. I'd say go with it. :D :jnj

DJ,

It's looking good.

1. I don't see anywhere to leave you feedback except the front page. Perhaps the "contact us" could be more pervasive.
2. You should hard-code the background of the page white (don't assume your users have their defaults set to what you do) :?
- Just add "background: #fff;" to your style sheet in the "body" section.
3. Your logo and art across the top middle is nice... until you view it at 800x600 -- then it's HUGE. Maybe scale it back to appeal to more users.
4. How does a user ADD an item? e.g. if I wanted to post about a local pub or HBS.

Keep it up... I think this has huge potential.

Thanks for the feedback guys. After repeated calls and much haranguing and harassing of people, I believe I finally have connectivity at home... Hopefully I'll be able to devote some time to this next week when the wife and kids are gone

I know that the size is an issue, in the last few years I've pretty much gone to use widescreen, dual display systems exclusively and it skewed my perspective..
I'll work on addressing that as well as the other issues you guys raised...
