Who knew you could snap a tap handle?

Sun Oct 15, 2006 7:27 pm

I went to pour a Dunkle after being gone for a couple weeks and the tap was stuck. Fuck. I give it a bit of a yank and SNAP. I couldn't belive it. The brass pin inside sheared. I really didn't pull on it that hard :?

Time to buy some forward seal faucets.

I thought I had read something that some folks use Keg Lube on the seal and have avoided that problem for the Rear-sealing taps. (Dunno, I switched to forward seals before I read about that. 8) )

Sucks dude...

I'll drink a pint from mine for ya... :P

I clean my tap handles after every keg and lube the moving parts with keg-lube, but they still stick after a few days.

Definatley time for some forward-sealing faucets. Looks like Ventmatic Ultraflows are back on the market. I guess Shirron has the rights to them now they're "Shirron Ultraflows" or something like that. Perlicks are still good though.

Your problem was that you failed to appoint a designated drinker to keep those taps exercised every day while you were gone. :aaron

JMU said Lube.

But as for the important part... did you still get yourself a pint, somehow?

Ya I ordered two of the Shirron Ultraflows today. If I have to take that tower apart I'm changing out both taps.

Hell yes I still got a pint. It was hard cider instead of Dunkle, but I survived.

I just ordered two Shirron Ultraflows myself. If you get yours before I get mine, let me know if the faucet threads match up to the shank. I've read that on some towers folks had to replace the shank (my tower came from Micro Matic).
