Remember, guys, these are pellets, not whole flowers. They inherently age better than whole flowers since there is so much less surface area.
Yes, they will lose a little bit of Alpha, but overall they should be fine, especially since they were stored sealed and cool.
The recommendation to use promash or beersmith to estimate the %AA degradation is a good one.

Perhaps... I don't think the OP ever specified, but your point is well taken that cone vs pellet will have different aging properties. Also if they are pellets, the may be variation within the bag itself. Long full pellets will generally fare better than ones that have been pulverized or small fragments.

As long as they smell alright, i would use them in a whirlpool addition, dry hop, etc. where you aren't necessarily looking for bitterness.

I had been kind of assuming we were talking pellets, but didn't think about it til you posted, then I was wondering. I even went back and reread the first post, and didn't see where he indicated what he was looking at... if only I'd paid attention to the thread I was in... :nutters:

I agree an app like ProMash would allow you to factor the age into the IBU calculation. I would not use them for late hopping. I'd use them for bittering. I want my late hops to deliver flavor and aroma, so I use the best hops I have late. I use old hops to provide IBUs.

I may be wrong (I am alot) But unless your going for Ninkasi or vieing for the Gold in a local brew off, don't sweat it. This is a hobbie and fun, besides experimentation is the best way to find out if something works or not. Even Jamil said once "It's only 5 gallons of beer". Brew strong Brotha and try it. :bnarmy:
