Chopped

Tue Jul 26, 2011 10:00 am

Sent Justin this message, but I'm not sure if he's too busy to read PMs so I thought I'd post it in the forums too.

I had an idea I thought I'd share in case it can be used in any of the TBN radio, TV, etc. endeavors. Forgive me if it's come up before.

I'm a big fan of the show Chopped. For those who aren't aware, it's a competition between 4 chefs who have to make an appetizer, entree, and dessert over 3 rounds. One of them gets voted off each round by a panel of judges based off the creativity and taste of their dishes. The interesting part is that each round the chefs get 4 unique ingredients that normally don't have any semblance which they have to use.

I thought it would be cool to have such a contest in the realm of beer - whether it be a recurring radio program or something else - where a number of contestants would get some interesting ingredients and have to create whatever type of beer they want. Possibilities are endless as far as the mandatory ingredients which could/should extend beyond grain and hops.

Anyway, just wanted to pass the idea along.

Cheers
Mike

In the basket you have...

an acorn, one can of spam, cauliflower, and lemongrass

you have thirty minutes to brew a gueuze

you must use every ingredient but also have access to the homebrew pantry...

Don't know about a gueuze, but I bet I could brew a drinkable porter with those.

I'm half tempted to try that this fall when the acorns begin to drop. 8)

The only problem is that every round would take a month.
