@booboo
I think it's multifunctionality as a hop back and a randall warrant the cost, as does the craftmanship.

@Michael Kelly
Yes, I turned it upside down and attached it directly to the kettle like Tasty did in his pictures before the pump. I use a JZ chiller to cool the wort vs. a therminator, so I recirculate the wort thru the kettle and hop back. The crude test run with water seemed to work fine after I purged the air and sloooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwlllllllllllllllllllyyyyyyyyyyyyy opened the kettle valve before turning on the pump.

I just used mine for the first time... I thought I was prepared after reading all 11 pages of this thread. Opened valve sloooowwwlllyyy... but still it plugged up. Did I read it here there's a part coming out to help with this problem?

Used mine for the first time yesterday using the set up recommended by blinchman. Pump - Hop Rocket - Therminator. 4oz of cascade and centennial. It worked well - very well in fact. I wish I'd read this thread and throttled back the flow initially - that's the best piece of advice in here I think.

It was my first time using both devices and I'm already looking forward to my next brew day now that I have everything set up.

I used mine yesterday for the 1st time last night. Overall I am an idiot. but with that said I do like the HopRocket for what it is.

I have pix and a little write-up of my experience with it http://www.lewybrewing.com on my homebrew blog.

I'm going to be using my hoprocket for the first time on Saturday. I do not have a pump, or a valve on my brewpot. My plan is to use gravity and pull the cooled wort from the kettle using a racking cane and run it through the hoprocket like John does in the video. I'm planning on using 4 oz. of hops.

Does anyone have any tips/tricks for using a gravity system like this? Am I doomed for failure?

After my experience, I would say doomed for failure.
