Clarifiers

What is everyone's choice for beer clarification?

I have been using whirlfloc and though it is a marked improvement from Irish moss, I still notice some haziness. I also cold crash post-fermentation to about 35 degrees for 24 hours prior to kegging, but still notice some yeast residue at the bottom of the keg. I have been considering using gelatin or other finings, but wanted to get everyone's opinion prior.

This kinda seems like a "duh" but have you considered filtering? Since you keg and clarity is important to you then that's the way i'd go.

you really need to solve the question of why you are getting haze.

If it's chill haze use Divergen (PolyClar) the stuff is enormously cheap ($36.00) if you buy it in the Kilo bulk jar and will last a very long time 'cause you use no more than 2 ounces per 5 gallons
If it's floating yeast you can fine with Isinglass, gelatin works also.

Are you using a high flocculation yeast like ESB 1968 or WLP011?
HEY~!! It's a hobby~!! It's NOT supposed to make sense~!!

I always have some yeast residue in the bottom of a keg, but I'm not moving it around much so its not a big deal. Is the beer clear in your glass? I also use whirlfloc in the boil and crash cool for 2 days after fermentation and then keg. My beer is usually clear after one week in the keg. If your beer is pouring clear, then I wouldn't worry about it.

I've been using whirlflok and cold crashing for 2 days as well... My beer doesn't pour clear for a while sometimes... Like a week and a half to two weeks..,, I have tried the KC super clear and it works very well. Just dump it in the fermenter and wait like 12 hours and your good to go!

Gelatin does wonders to bring yeast out of solution. I like to add the gelatin to the keg prior to racking off of the fermentor. Two days cold and its crystal clear if you want or need to move the keg around you need to push the beer to a purged keg via jumper.
