North Carolina Beer

Thu Jan 06, 2011 2:11 pm

Hey BNers. My daughter is on her way to North Carolina, and was nice enough to offer to bring me back some beer. I'm looking for NC beers to have her look for. Anybody know some good ones?
Cheers! Kevin

Here are some of the bigger (and better) breweries in NC.

Foothills Brewing
Peoples Porter
Seeing Double IPA
Sexual Chocolate

French Broad Brewing

Wee Heavy-er Scotch Ale

Highland Brewing
Seven Sisters- abbey style ale
Black Mocha Stout
Cold Mountain Winter Ale

Duck-Rabbit
Milk Stout

Big Boss Brewing Co.

BAD PENNY Brown Ale

These are some of my personal favorites. I think a few are seasonal, but if you can get your hands on these, you'll be a happy man.

You will not be able to get any of the Foothills beers except the Porter and that will be growler only. They dont bottle any of their regular beers. Cold Mountain is a seasonal right now and that one is delicious. You may also want to try some beer from Mother Earth, Catawba Valley Brewing, and if in Asheville, there are several breweries there with great beer. I would also suggest Olde Mecklenburg in Charlotte and Natty Greenes bottles a pretty decent Imperial Stout (I think it is Cannonball Stout). Happy hunting.

I second Olde Mecklenburg if you like german style beers. I like Duck-Rabbit beers too.

I had olde meck at their brewery and was not impressed. It had a metalic coppery thing going on. Plus I don't believe they bottle.

I second sackerz9 thoughts. The other brewery not mentioned but is worth finding is Lone Rider Brewing. Classic German Hefe but the current star is Sweet Josie Brown an American Brown ale that won gold at GABF this year.
