i didnt see every minute of the show because i was watching the eagles watch the giants beat the giants....however

i thought the show was entertaining...aside from the rapping part. bpfishback is right on the mark, this is a general information show...sure there are some things in there that are best understood by brewers/homebrewers but for the most part its for everyone. i wonder if chefs complain about watching anthony bourdain no reservations...he doesnt show the proper technique for [insert cooking technique] and gasp there was a mcdonalds commercial during the episode.

sam and DC would not be smart to market the show to a small demographic...we are many, but not that many...

just take it at face value and enjoy the fact that someone in craft beer cracked the mainstream media.

It was an okay show. It was a first episode, for sure. It was like they couldn't decide if they were a reality show about a producing brewery (I loved the parts about the scheduling of the beers, and the spilled glue, for example. I hope we get to see more of the folks on the line.), Ace of Cakes, or a show about a ground breaking brewer. That they went for all three is a bit disappointing. I kept expecting an auction or a pawn shop to fill a couple of minutes.

I am a bit confused about all the hating on Sam and Dogfish. For sure, they are not my first choice in craft beer, but good God they are a "gateway drug" for BMC drinkers. I would never be able to get my BMC-drinking friends to listen to the BN (they have no idea what they are missing), but I promoted Brewmasters to coworkers last week and three stopped by my office today to let me know how much they enjoyed it and wanted to know where they could try DFH beer. That's a huge victory over BMC for sure. If they try DFH, they'll probably find other craft beer they like at least as much if not more. For me it was DFH, then Bell's, then Firestone Walker, then everything else.

If the criticism of Sam and DFH is their self-promotion, which seem to make up 90% of the complaints here (the other 10% being the hip-hop, which was so bad it was funny in the laughing-at-you-kind-of-way), the same criticism could be leveled at other brewers (Greg Koch's "I am a Craft Brewer" video or even Collin K's shots at Sierra Nevada on last night's Session are a start). That's part of their job: promoting their beer. I take no offense at any craft brewer because I want them to steal BMC business.

I view a big part of being a Homebrewer/Craft Beer Drinker/Beer Geek is converting the masses from American Light Lager to beer that is actually interesting. In that respect, Sam, Dogfish, and Brewmasters are a big step in the right direction.

I don't understand. Or are you talking about perceived similarities between Sam C. and Keanu Reeves?

DFH is not a gateway beer. Blue Moon is a gateway beer. And while you take no offense at a craft brewer for stealing BMC business, how are you when BMC advertised on the show? Everything I read in the forums around the Internet leading up to the show sounded like it was written by someone with one hand in their pants. The blind adoration of anyone concerns me.

Except the blind adoration of JP. :unicornrainbow:

If the show brings more people into the fold of craft beer drinkers it's a good thing. It reminded me of American Chopper in the aspect of "so and so" aproached me to make a beer for whatever purpose so we went to work. If that's the case then I won't be watching. Too late to stay up after a hard days brewing myself. Mmmmmmmmmmmm Beer! :aaron

American Chopper, Ace of Cakes. You say tomato, I say tomahto.

I don't think it will bring anyone into craft beer, especially next week when they do the corn spit beer. A lot of people will think "If that's craft beer, I don't want it."

On another subject, you and the missus are going to San Diego, right?
