No plans for tonight, so it actually seems like a good idea to squeeze in a German Pilsener brew session. Water is boiling, and time to grind some grain. Wonder how I'll feel about that decision when midnight rolls around!

That reminds me of all the free time I have since I've moved away from that place where you have to rake leaves, cut the grass, and blow snow. It's starting to be lager season over here, and I'll probably do one next week. I'd like to say that all the addition time I have goes to philanthropic endeavors, but it really has just given me more time to allocate to beating off.

Just doughed in an American Barleywine. First time using my shiny new false bottom. Here's to hoping for not another stuck mash!

Bummer. How did the rest of the brew go? Good, I hope.

I'm about to start running off a slightly rye mild (a nod to Goose Island's Mild Winter), let's hope I'm not back here in 20 minutes complaining about a stuck mash too.

Cheers!

Not particularly great. Evaporation rate was about 50% lower than normal (with a fresh propane tank) so I missed my OG by a pretty big spread. Definitely not a barelywine anymore; probably closer to a big red. It smells and tastes good and on the bright side I usually nail my fermentations so I'm not worried about not having a barleywine. And with all these stuck mashes as of late I've got my troubleshooting technique down. Luckily I have a secondary mash tun so when the first one gets stuck I just start schlepping it into the second smaller tun; when that gets stuck I empty it back into the first, clear the line and start over. A few Oaked Arrogant Bastards and couple of Hop Head Reads certainly help keep you calm in the face of adversity!

Good luck. I think I'm absorbing all of the stuck mashes in the universe so you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

Recipe finalized, grain weighed and milled, hops measured out and put in baggies, water in the HLT, immersion heater in the HLT, fresh tank of propane. All set to brew my chocolate coffee porter first thing in the morning. :D

Doughed-in Lagunitas Little Sumpin' Sumpin' clone attempt 22 minutes ago. 1.070 and eight different hops. WTF! I need a sponsor for these CYBI beers. :)
