Re: Ok, here it is. not 100% but almost.. My brewhouse!

I sent in 3 samples,, one straight from the well, one out of my RO, and one that goes to the brew system, that one has 2 carbon and a drinking water filter.. and it still had all of that in the keg. will be interesting to see the results between the 3.... I'll post them when they come in.

well the 1st 2 batches the elements look good, I would bet if they were higher wattage they might burn the wort but they seem to work ok.

Sounds like you have it all under control. Though you shouldn't have sediment with RO water. Are you sure it's not all cold break? You're going to get a lot of that no matter what your water profile is. It's a perfectly normal byproduct of all-grain brewing. Nothing to worry about.

I didnt use RO water,, used regular water.. I just sent in my RO sample to see how much it pulls out...

here is some results.

BW ( brew water )

sodium, na - 115
calcium, ca - 106
magnesium, mg - 27
sulfate, so4-s - 62
Chloride, cl - 90
Bicarbonate, hco3 - 359 < ----------- WOW
Total ALC, caco3 - 294
PH - 7.5

That kind of bicarbonate levels and the fact that I was brewing a 10 srm beer suggests that my mash PH was WAY high ( which I didnt test, I will from now on of course )... Probably leeched every harsh tannin out that was in the mash... and then some...

Learn something new every damn day..... 100GPD RO here I come!

I can't believe your RO filter doesn't take all that out! Sounds like you got a bum filter, but then I've never actually sent my RO water in to be tested. I switched to just using a plain old household carbon filter with some hose fittings on it for my brew water, my water's hard, but I guess not that hard.

no, thats not my RO... Thats just through a couple of carbon filters and a drinking water filter.

I sent my house RO water in to test it and its has nice results, and actually has a nice low end mineral profile that is great for 3-6 srm beers, and for the rest I'll just add what I need...

But, thats in the house and rather than collect and lug water back and forth, I am going to get me a 20gal pressure tank and a 100gpd RO out in the brew house....

It would be nice to just go out in the brew house early in the morning, crack one open, open the valve and fill up the hlt and get at it.. The reason for building this place is to have a 1 stop, just walk in and start brewing. no need to go find anything or buy anything. and at the same time keep it simple and clean. very little variables to mess with, just hit my groove and brew good consistant beers.

SO i am thinking RO would be best, just build the water to whatever specs I need. SO now what can I sell to come up with the cash for the RO system.... hym.......
