No dry hop in BCS IPA recipe

Tue May 05, 2009 8:08 am

After listening to the dry hopping brew strong episode a couple times, I"m wondering why the BCS IPA recipe has no dry hops. There are 4oz of additions throughout the boil but nothing afterward.

Should I brew the recipe as is or do you think the beer would be better dry hopped?

Personally, I wouldn't brew an IPA without dry hops. But I think the book is correct to Jamil's recipe. You could always brew it up, evaluate the flavor / aroma, and then decide on the dry hops.

Dry hop that sucker. I always go with an ounce of centennial and an ounce of amarillo. I've brewed it as it is in the book, and with some dry hopping, and I really like the results I get by dry hopping with centennial/amarillo

Dry-hopping it is.

How do you feel about adding a total of 4 ounces to the dryhop? Too much?

I'm not sure you can have too much. But it's a diminishing returns thing. 2 oz gives plenty of flavor/aroma in my opinion. Your tastes may vary. Brew it both ways and let us know!

Better throw some mash hops and sparge hops, too - just for good measure.

Suck it, Mylo!

I ask for because Tasty said in the dry hopping show that he would dry hop a 5 gallon batch of APA with 2oz. I figured it would be closer to 4oz on an IPA.
